Take a New York costume tailor, introduce her to a Ugandan coffee farmer, and what do you get? 2 teenagers, and a new little baby.....in other words,
our family.
I (Tara) was working in New York City, making costumes for the movie industry, when a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Uganda turned into a life passion, a yearly sojourn, and eventually, a marriage. I lived in Uganda with my new husband and our 2 tweens for a year and a half...until we found out I was pregnant, finished the [grueling] immigration process, and moved back to the US, and my hometown, Asheville, NC.
Grace was working in his coffee and banana plantations, directing a private high school, and caring for his LARGE extended family when a naive, idealist girl got in his van one day and proceeded to cry her eyes out in front of him. He was smitten immediately [his words], and eventually made his BOLD move through what could have been a business meeting, complete with powerpoint. Ha! Needless to say, I was intrigued.
Now, the move has been made, the baby has been had, the drivers licenses and social security cards have been obtained, the dust is settling, and we are attempting to figure out what our life will be here....and we hope this blog will help us sort it out. We shall see....
Boiling it down, I hope to post here about my work with Fount of Mercy, the people and land we love in Africa, my creative endeavors, inspirations, my sewing classes, and a bit about our family life. See, a mixed bag...just like us. Enjoy!
